Reeds Ferry Market in Merrimack, NH Sells Winning $559.7 million Powerball Ticket

1/7/2018

CONCORD, N.H. – A $559.7 million winning Powerball ticket was sold at the Reeds Ferry Market at 601 Daniel Webster Highway in Merrimack, NH for last night’s drawing—this marks New Hampshire’s second Powerball jackpot winner in the past year and a half. The $559.7 million jackpot is the sixth-largest Powerball jackpot on record and the seventh-largest jackpot overall.

“We cannot even describe our excitement right now at having a $559.7 million Powerball jackpot winner! To have two massive Powerball winners in a year and a half is incredibly thrilling,” said Charlie McIntyre, executive director of the New Hampshire Lottery. “We are looking forward to meeting New Hampshire’s latest big winner—someone woke up a multimillionaire this morning!”

On July 30, 2016 a New Hampshire player—who chose to remain anonymous—won a $487 million winning Powerball ticket sold at the Hannaford Supermarket in Raymond.

“This is an extraordinary moment for the New Hampshire Lottery and for Reeds Ferry Market in Merrimack,” said Debra Douglas, chairman of the New Hampshire Lottery Commission. “Over the past two years, the New Hampshire Lottery has proudly awarded more than $1 billion in prizes to New Hampshire players. Further, of the top-10 Powerball jackpots in history, New Hampshire players have now won two.”

The Powerball drawing results from last night (Jan. 6) were: 12-29-30-33-61 PB-26 with a Power Play of 3.

The Powerball jackpot for Saturday reached an estimated annuitized $559.7 million with an estimated cash value of $358.5 million.

Two options are available to the winner, taking a lump-sum cash option of approximately $358.5 million or the option of an annuity payment over 30 years. The annuity payment offers a graduated plan that increases each year. An estimated $8 million payment would be made the first year and the final payment would be an estimated $34 million. Both prizes are estimated before taxes.

Reed’s Ferry Market will receive $75,000 for selling the winning ticket.

“Winning such an incredible amount of money is truly life-changing, but before the winner begins making plans to buy an expensive yacht or a mansion, I would encourage him or her to take a moment to process what winning this prize means,” McIntyre continued.

McIntyre, who has administered hundreds of millions of dollars in winning prizes during his career, offered several tips for the winner’s consideration:

  • Sign the ticket—the New Hampshire Lottery only pays the person who signs the back of the ticket.
  •
  • Talk to a lawyer—an attorney can provide strategic guidance.
  •
  • Meet with a financial professional—someone experienced working with large sums of money.
  •
  • Plan first; then claim your prize. There is no need to rush—the winner has a full year to claim the prize. Think about what you want to do with the money.

Including last night’s winning ticket, New Hampshire has now had 11 Powerball jackpot winners since New Hampshire joined the game in 1995:
